Holidays overlapping at the start and end of a holiday year

Summary

How to correct an employee’s holiday entitlement in Sage 50 Payroll when holidays overlap at the start and end of a holiday year.

Description

An error can occur if an employee takes a holiday overlapping the start and end of the holiday year. The system can fail to reflect it in their entitlement.

For example:

Holiday year start date - 1 January 2026.

In the employee's absence diary, record holidays taken from 30 December 2025 to 3 January 2026. As the holiday year starts on 1 January, three days should be added to the amount in the Taken box in the Employee Record

  1. Go to Employee Record and select Absence
  2. Select Holiday and the Entitlement tab.

However, the system added no days to this box.

Resolution

From the absence diary, delete the holiday dated the last day of the previous holiday year. Or, depending on the scenario, delete the holiday dated the first day of the next holiday year. In the above example, delete the holiday dated 31 December 2025.

  1. Select Employee.
  2. Click Employee Record.
  3. Select the Absence tab.
  4. Right-click the holiday and select None.
  5. Click Save.
  6. Click the Holiday button and check the Entitlement tab.
