Am I Making Tax Digital compliant if I already submit VAT Returns from Sage 50 Accounts?

Created on  | Last modified on

Summary

In order to be Making Tax Digital compliant, you must be using Sage 50cloud Accounts v24.2 or above.

Resolution

The existing online VAT Return submission feature in Sage 50 Accounts submits your VAT Return to the HMRC Government Gateway. Under Making Tax Digital (MTD), HMRC require you to use software which submits your VAT Return to their new VAT (MTD) API system instead of the Government Gateway.

NOTE: If your business is voluntarily registered for VAT but you're not registered for Making Tax Digital (MTD), from April 2021 you will no longer be able to submit your VAT Returns directly from your software to the Government Gateway. Find out more >

In order to be MTD-ready, you must be using Sage 50cloud Accounts v24.2 or above.

Don't worry, this doesn't mean moving everything to the cloud. Sage 50cloud Accounts is still the accounts desktop software you know and trust, but with added MTD compliance plus optional cloud features such as Microsoft 365 integration and cloud backups.
