Add a nominal code to your chart of accounts

How to add nominal codes into your Chart of accounts (COA) in Sage 50 Accounts.

Description

When you create a new nominal code, a warning can appear advising it's outside the COA range. You can add the nominal code to the COA, which shows the code's value in your profit and loss or balance sheet reports.

The warning message stating the nominal code is outside the range of the chart of accounts.

Resolution

To add a code or a range of codes

  1. Go to Nominal codes and select Chart of accounts.
  2. Select the required Chart of accounts, for example, Default Layout of Accounts, then press Edit.
  3. Select Profit & Loss or Balance Sheet, depending on which area you want to amend.
  4. Select the required category, for example, Overheads.
  5. Click the next blank range and enter the name as you want it to appear on your reports.
  6. Select the Low column and enter the nominal code you want to add.
  7. Select the High column and enter the nominal code you want to add.
  8. Press Save then Close.

 

If the message 'Incomplete chart of accounts' appears, press OK. You can then check and correct any errors in your COA.
