Summary
Description
At the end of each tax month, before you pay HMRC, there are several tasks you should complete:
If you process payroll monthly
Follow these steps each time you run your payroll, once you've finished processing.
If you process payroll weekly, fortnightly or four-weekly
Follow these steps once you've processed the last payroll run for the tax month. You can find the start and end dates for each tax month using the tax week and tax month calendar.
Resolution
Print your P32
The P32 report shows how much you need to pay HMRC for the month.
The employer payment summary
If you need to submit an employer payment summary (EPS), you should do this at the end of the tax month. You only need to submit an EPS under the following circumstances:
- If you need to tell HMRC about adjustments to your payments due to statutory payments recovered, NI compensation or CIS deductions suffered.
- If you need to report apprenticeship levy values.
- If your liability for the tax period is zero. In this situation you don't need to make a payment and haven't sent an FPS, however you must submit an EPS by the 19th of the following month.
Pay HMRC
You must pay HMRC the amount due by the 22nd of the month, or 19th if you're paying by post.
If you use e-Banking, you can use the Collector of Taxes wizard to pay HMRC electronically.
