Resolution

How do I view rejection messages?

You can review HMRC's rejection messages by selecting Administration, Online filing history from the menu bar at the top of the screen. Double click on the return in question to see the full message.



Why do I receive this error?

There are different possible causes of this error but essentially they are caused by the user credentials entered in Sage Corporation Tax not matching HMRC records.


How do I resolve this error?

If you're running Sage Corporation Tax v2.0 or earlier, please go straight to HMRC Online Filing Credentials.

As there are a number of reasons why HMRC may have rejected your details, we recommend the following steps:

If you're running Sage Corporation Tax v2.0 or earlier

HMRC have updated the web address (sometimes called a URL) used to submit your returns. This updated URL was included in Sage Corporation Tax v2.1.

If you're running v2.0 or earlier we recommend you upgrade to v2.1 and retry your submission before proceeding with the rest of this article.

You can check the version you're running from the title bar or by selecting Help, About Sage Corporation Tax.

Sage Corporation Tax should automatically inform you that there is an update available. Alternatively you can download Sage Corporation Tax v2.1 by logging into the downloads area of our website.

If you're looking to bring your software fully up to date, we recommend installing each release in turn. For more information on updates, please see Ask Sage 36843.

HMRC Online Filing Credentials

The HMRC online filing credentials may be entered incorrectly in Sage Corporation Tax.

Select Administration followed by Practice details. Here you will see your user ID and password.

Check the user ID is correct, then please re-enter your password again to be sure it is correct.

Please make sure you're is attaching the correct files at the correct stage, possibly after retagging both the accounts and return from new.

Logging in to the Government Gateway

Ensure that you can Log in to the Government gateway using the user ID and password that you have entered within Sage Corporation Tax.

You can visit the HMRC's website at http://www.gateway.gov.uk/

If you are unable to log in, please contact HMRC Online Services Helpdesk on 0300 2003 600 .

Does the client appear on you Corporation Tax list on the Government Gateway

Once you have logged in to your Government Gateway account successfully please check that your client appears in your Corporation Tax list.

You need to be the authorised agent for a client in order to be able to file online. If you are not an authorised agent for this client please contact HMRC Online Services Helpdesk on 0300 2003 600.

Company Registration Number (CRN)

The Company Registration Number may not match what the Government Gateway is expecting.

To check this: Click on Company Details in the navigator. This needs to be consistent with HMRC records, you can check this by either logging on to your Government Gateway account or by calling HMRC Online Services Helpdesk.

UTR (Unique Taxpayer Reference)

The client Unique Taxpayer Reference (UTR) may not match what the Government Gateway is expecting.

To check this: Click on Company Details in the navigator. This needs to be consistent with HMRC records, You can check this by either logging on to your Government Gateway account or by calling HMRC online Services Helpdesk.

You've now checked or amended all of the options related to this error code. If it persists, please contact HMRC Online Services Help Desk on 0300 2003 600 , as you may need a new password or user name.

TIP: You'll need to run Sage Assisted Tagging again if you make any changes to the computation. Also re-tagging the Computation might also resolve the error even if no changes have been made.
