Sage 50cloud Accounts - Firewalls and the Data Service

Created on  | Last modified on

This article runs through how to ensure your firewalls do not interfere with your Sage 50cloud Accounts Data Service.

The Sage 50cloud Accounts Data Service runs on the computer or server where your Sage 50cloud Accounts data is held. The service acts as a gateway and controls the reading and writing of data. Using this service increases the robustness of the system, improves data security and helps to optimise performance.

Please be aware that if you require further help with this you may need to contact your IT administrator.

NOTE: This guide only applies to Sage 50cloud Accounts v24 and above. You can check your software version in Help > About.

Check which firewall you're using

If you are unsure about which antivirus or firewall software you are using, you can investigate further by using one of the following methods:

  • If Sage 50cloud Accounts is installed, open Help > About and from the System Details section, check the Firewall listed.
  • Start > All programs > look for anti-virus or firewall software in the list.
  • Start > Settings > Control Panel > look for any antivirus or firewall software.
  • Start > Run > enter services.msc >  OK. Look for anti-virus/firewall software in the Services list.
  • Use the mouse to hover over the system tray The system tray is normally found in the bottom right corner of your screen, next to the clock. Each option you hover over shows the name of the application that is running. Look for any antivirus or firewall software.

To ensure that your firewall doesn't block the Sage Data Service, please ensure the following ports are open -

The ports can be configured for specific IP addresses. On the server, the IP addresses for the client computers should be added to the inbound rule for the port. On the client computers the IP address for the server should be added to the outbound rule for the port. Naturally this can't be applied if dynamic IP addresses are used.

For further information and help with this, please refer to your system administrator.
