Automatic update prompts to install an incorrect version

Steps if automatic update suggests an old update, or the latest update of Sage 50 Payroll when you've already installed.

Description

The automatic update feature lets you know when you have a software update to install.

Sometimes, auto update prompts you to install the latest version when you've already installed it, or to install an older version.

Resolution

To resolve this, update the files your software uses to check for updates with the steps below.

  1. Click Help then click About.
  2. In Program Details, check the Version Number is the latest version.
     TIP: You can check the latest version in our download and install Sage 50 Payroll guide.
  3. Close any Sage software on your computer.
  4. Press the Windows key and E then browse to C:\Program Data\Sage.
  5. Right-click SBD Software Updates then click Rename.
  6. Change the name from SBD Software Updates to SBD Software UpdatesOLD.

You can now open your Sage 50 Payroll software and continue without these prompts reappearing.


Issue persists

If you still experience the issue, complete the below steps.

  1. Click Help then click About.
  2. From Program Details, make a note of the Program directory.
  3. Close any Sage software on your computer.
  4. Press the Windows Key and E.
  5. Browse to the Program directory path noted in step 2.
  6. Right-click PayCalc.dll then click Properties.
  7. Click Details, then check the file version is matches your Program Version then click OK.
  8. Right-click PayrollVersion.dat then open with Notepad, check the version matches your Program Version from Help and About.
  9. Close Notepad.
    • If PayCalc.dll or PayrollVersion.dat show the wrong versions, right-click each file individually then click Rename and change PayCalc.dll to PayCalc.old and PayrollVersion.dat to PayrollVersion.old. You can then download and install the latest update >

    • If they show the correct versions, continue to reinstall in step 11
  10. Right-click Payroll.exe then click Properties.
  11. Click Details then check the File version is up to date.

    If Payroll.exe shows the incorrect file version, download and install the latest update >
