This article walks you through how to export your client data from Sage Accounts Production or Sage Accounts Production Advanced and import into Sage Personal Tax, Business Tax or Partnership Tax.

How to export client data from Sage Accounts Production
- From the client list in Sage Accounts Production, expand the client and select the date you want to Export
- Ensure that Sage Accounts Production is set up to export to Taxation, to do this, select Tools, Settings, Workstation Settings and select the Tax Export tab and in the box on the left select Sage Taxation
- You are now ready to export to Taxation. Select Tools, Export, Tax Export, Select either Personal Tax or Business Tax. Either option will also work for importing into Sage Partnership Tax.
- Once the window loads make a note of the file name as this is where the file saves to, this always needs to be saved as a .tax file.
- If the option is available then select the current year
- Select sole trade or partnership.
How to export client data from Sage Accounts Production Advanced
- Use the quick links section, select Sage Links, Export to Sage Taxation
- Ensure that you have the correct client end year selected
- Choose the export destination
- Click OK
If you don't have quick links enabled, you can also export via the navigation menu:
- Select Tools, Export, Data export
- Click Next on the first screen of the data export wizard
- Select the correct client and year information, then click Next
- Select the product and tax year for which you are exporting and click Next
- Select the export directory, click Next then Finish
Import to Personal Tax
- Open the client in Personal Tax
- Go to the earned income section and expand the self employment section
- Open the Self Employment and go to the Accounts information section
- Click on the Accounts import button
- Once the window loads check the accounting period is correct
- Select the template as Sage Accounts Production (Standard) or Sage Accounts Production Advanced (Standard)
- Click the magnifying glass icon to find the file, then click Import
Import to Business Tax
- Open the client in Business Tax
- Using the icons that run along the top of the screen click on import
- Once the window loads check the accounting period is correct
- Select the template as Sage Accounts Production (Standard) or Sage Accounts Production Advanced (Standard)
- Click the magnifying glass to find the file, then click import
Import to Partnership Tax
- Open the client in Partnership Tax
Make sure you're on an editable return. If you have a final or posted (from Business Tax) set of figures, select Copy return for editing / amendment from the tasks on the left.
- Still in the tasks pane on the left, select click Import accounts data.
You can also select Tools, Import accounts data from the menu bar if you prefer.
- Once the window loads check the accounting period is correct
- Select the template as Sage Accounts Production (Standard) or Sage Accounts Production Advanced (Standard)
- Click the magnifying glass to find the file you've exported and select Import
Preview the accounts data
Importing into Personal Tax, Business Tax or Partnership Tax as described above, you can choose to view the import by selecting the Preview data check box before clicking import at the last step. This can be useful for tracing where a particular figure is coming from and whether it is part of the import.
