Certain files and folders hide from view during searches or browsing in Windows Explorer.

Resolution

Windows 11

  1. Press the Windows key  + E.
  2. Click View, then hover over Show click Options.
  3. Then click Hidden items.
  4. Check your settings are as follows:
    Advanced settingsCheck box
    Don't show hidden files, folders, or drivesClear
    Show hidden files, folders, and drivesSelect
    Hide extensions for known file typesClear
    Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)Clear - A warning message will show when you clear this check box - click Yes to this warning.


  5. Click Apply then click OK.

Windows 10

  1. Press the Windows key  + E.
  2. Click View, then click Options.
  3. Click Change folder and search options.
  4. Click the View tab.
  5. Check your settings are as follows:
    Advanced settingsCheck box

    Show hidden files, folders, and drivesSelect
    Hide extensions for known file typesClear
    Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)Clear -A

    warning message will appear when you clear this check box - click Yes to this warning.

  6. Click Apply then click OK.
