Summary

How to resolve the message if Sage 50 Accounts is not already open.

Description

If you open Sage Accounts you may get the error message:

'You may only run one copy of this program at any one time'

Cause

This message appears when one or more of the application files are already running on your computer. This most commonly occurs when the Sage Accounts shortcut has been double-clicked more than once, once processes have started to run it may take 30 seconds or more for the process to close and for the software to be opened.

Resolution

TIP: If you've Sage 50 Accounts pinned to your taskbar, double clicking the icon can cause this error as taskbar icons only need to be clicked once to open them.

If Sage 50 Accounts isn't open on the computer, to correct this, you should end the process on the following Sage application files:

  • sbddesktop.exe - Sage Small Business Division Desktop
  • sage.exe
  • sglauncher.exe - SGLauncher Module
  • sgregsvr.exe

To end the process:

  1. Ensure all other Sage programs are closed.
  2. Press Ctrl + Alt + Delete then click Task Manager.
  3. Click the Processes tab, under the Background processes section, select the required file then click End Process and click Yes.
To sort the files in alphabetic order, click the Image Name column heading.

If the issue persists, restart your computer.
