Summary
Resolution
If you create nominal codes of varying lengths, for example, a mixture of 4 and 5 digit nominal codes, the Nominal Ledger does not sort the codes in numerical order. Instead, Sage Accounts sorts the codes numerically based on the first digit, then the second, then the third etc.
If you create a new nominal code with more digits than the existing codes you also receive the following message:
'The nominal account does not fall within the range for and account of the required category.
Are you sure you wish to use this code?'
For example
- 1000
- 10000
- 1001
- 10010
- 10011
- 1002
Chart of accounts
Using the above list, if the following range were added to the chart of accounts:
| Range | Nominal codes included |
|---|---|
| 1000 - 1001 | 1000 |
| 10000 | |
| 1001 | |
| 10000 - 10010 | 10000 |
| 1001 | |
| 10010 | |
| 1000-10011 | 1000 |
| 10000 | |
| 1001 | |
| 10010 | |
| 10011 |
Wherever possible, avoid using nominal codes of varying length. Create all nominal codes using a consistent number of digits.
