Summary

How to use the Event Log to track important events in Sage 50 Accounts.

Description

With the Event Log you can see a record of when important changes are made within your accounts data and by who. It's easy to use, so let's take a look.

Resolution

Turn on the Event Log

Click Settings, click Company Preferences then click Parameters.
Under the Others section, select the Log Events check box.
Click OK.

The events going forward are now logged. If you need to turn the event log off at any point, simply repeat the above steps and clear the Log Events check box.

View events

Log into Sage 50 Accounts as MANAGER.
Click Tools then click Event Log.

TIP: You can filter the events by clicking Filter.

For each logged event, you can see the following:

What event occurred
Which user made the change
Which computer the event occurred on
When the event occurred

The following events may create an entry in the Event log, depending on the logging level you set within the Event log settings:

Event Log Settings

You can control how events are logged and retained in the event log settings. If you use your software on a network, these settings must be applied on each computer.

Log into Sage 50 Accounts as MANAGER.
Click Tools, click Event Log then click Settings.

Amend the event log settings as required:

Current Log File Size	This shows the current file size of the data within the log. You cannot amend this field.
Maximum log file size	Enter the maximum size you want the log file to be. This is useful if you're running out of disk space on the computer. If the maximum log file size entered is smaller than the Current Log File Size, a warning message appears advising that some of the oldest events will be deleted from the file.
Logging Level Control	You can specify which levels of events are recorded, for example, to record all events, select 3 - Information, or to record just the critical events, select 0 - Critical.

Current Log File Size

This shows the current file size of the data within the log. You cannot amend this field.

Maximum log file size

Enter the maximum size you want the log file to be. This is useful if you're running out of disk space on the computer.

If the maximum log file size entered is smaller than the Current Log File Size, a warning message appears advising that some of the oldest events will be deleted from the file.

Logging Level Control

You can specify which levels of events are recorded, for example, to record all events, select 3 - Information, or to record just the critical events, select 0 - Critical.
