ERROR: 'Error sending email using Outlook...Path does not exist. Verify the ...'
Description

When you try to send emails from your software using Outlook, you can see the error:

'Unable to send all emails. Error with the address. Unknown Error. Check Windows event Log for more details.'

When you check your Windows Event Log, you'll see:

'Error sending email using Outlook ; System.IO.DirectoryNotFoundException: Path does not exist. Verify the path is correct. ....Microsoft.Office.Interop.Outlook.Attachments.Add(Object Source, Object Type, Object Position, Object DisplayName)....'

An error message referring to an attachment or signature.

 

NOTE:

If you see a different error, use our event log errors when sending emails with Microsoft Outlook or SMTP article.

Cause
Resolution

There are two possible causes for this:

  • The email attachment on the layout is no longer available
  • Issue with the Outlook signature

The email attachment on the layout is no longer available

  1. Select the layout you're experiencing the issue with.
  2. Select Edit to open the Sage Report Designer.
  3. Go to Report then Email Settings.
  4. Go to the Email Attachments tab and remove any attached files and press OK.

    TIP:

    If this window is empty, follow the issue with the Outlook signature section.

     
  5. Go to File then Save.
  6. Try emailing the layout again.

Issue with the Outlook signature

  1. In Microsoft Outlook, go to File then Options.
  2. Select Mail, then Signatures.
  3. Press New and type the name for the signature then press OK.
  4. Create a new signature, but don't add any text or images to it.
  5. Press OK to close the window.

If you're using Sage 50 Payroll, you can now email your documents. With Sage 50 Accounts, follow the steps below before you email your documents.

  1. In Sage 50 Accounts only, go to Settings then Email Defaults.
  2. Go to the relevant tab. For example, Invoice or Statement.
  3. In the Override Default Outlook Signature section, select Yes - your new email signature.
  4. Press Apply, expand Invoice and select the layout to send.
  5. Press OK, then OK again to close the window.
  6. Go to Invoices and credits, select an invoice and select Print.
  7. Select the layout in Step 6 and select Email.
  8. If the document emails successfully, follow Step 4 onwards to apply the new signature to all applicable layouts.
