Bank payment types and limitations for Salary payments
Description

Each bank has their own process for connecting to a third-party provider like Crezco, and how they process your payments.

Sage Payroll and Crezco will guide you through your banks payment journey automatically. This includes providing:

  • The necessary authentication process
  • Specific payment requirements
  • Splitting the payment types into the correct quantities

NOTE:

Your bank generates the screens you see, not Sage Payroll. You can check your banks supported features at support.crezco.com/bank-compatibility.

Common bank limitations

  • Daily transaction limits
  • Minimum payment amount
  • Minimum payment count
  • Payee details (account name, sort code and number)
  • No special characters in the reference (you can only use dashes or dots)
  • Future date payments

Uncommon bank limitations

Third-party access

Set this up before a customer tries to process a payment through Payroll.

Trusted beneficiary

Save the beneficiary’s details as a ‘trusted payee’ in the user’s account. Authorising the payments without adding all payees can cause the full batch to fail.

Multi authentication

With some banks, you can remove this feature but with others it’s the default setting and not something you can change.

Payment types

Payroll automatically sends the correct request type to your bank, regardless of employee numbers or payment value.

Single payment

One payment to an employee requiring one approval.

Bulk/batch payments

Bulk payments are multiple payments grouped together and processed with one approval. Banks have different limits for bulk payments and If they exceed the volume or value, they’re split into multiple batches. Each batch requires it's own approval.

For example, If your bank can only process 10 payments at once, but you have 30 employees to pay, it's split into three batches. This means you must go through the authorisation process three times.

Chaining payments

Some banks don't support batch/bulk payments and can only facilitate single payments. You’ll authorise these individually.

Alternatively, we offer a solution where you only need to authorise the payment once. To set this up, you'll go through some additional security steps know as a Know your customer (KYC) check. You'll only need to do this verification once.

Know your customer check (KYC)

This is an optional step facilitated by Crezco, if your bank doesn't offer bulk payments. The feature helps reduce how often you need to authorise payments.
