Communication: Subscription Licence Service changes

Sage 200

Subscription Licence Service changes

We’re changing the Subscription Licence Service from Friday 31 October 2025 to improve security and reliability. These updates affect how some products connect to the service.

What's changing?

We’re removing outdated cipher suites, like ECDHE-RSA-AES256-SHA (for example, cipher suite string: TLS_ECDHE_RSA_WITH_AES_256_CBC_SHA), that no longer meet modern security standards. Ciphers help Sage 200 and the Licence Service communicate securely. For a connection to work, the app, operating system, and service must all support the same cipher.

Who's affected?

Customers using unsupported operating systems (for example, Windows Server 2012) will likely lose access unless they update their setup. We’ve already contacted partners supporting known affected customers, but environments change - so we’re sharing this with all partners.

What you need to know

  • Check configurations. Unsupported systems may include the right ciphers, but they often don’t enable them by default. Don’t assume - verify.
  • Sage doesn’t support operating system-level configuration. We can’t advise on how to manage cipher settings.
  • Missing or disabled ciphers will block access. If the system doesn’t support or enable the required ciphers, it won’t connect to the Licence Service after 31 October.
  • Use Microsoft’s default cipher settings. Supported operating systems with default settings (no custom changes) will continue to connect without issue.

What happens next?

If a customer’s system uses one of the removed ciphers, it won’t connect to the Licence Service. The system will display a 30-day countdown before the licence expires.

What you need to do

If your customer uses an affected operating system or cipher, act now to avoid disruption. Take one or more of the following steps:

  • Check and enable all required ciphers, including defaults, following Microsoft guidance
  • Upgrade the operating system on the machine running Sage software
  • Install Sage software on a machine running a supported operating system

You'll find full details in our compatibility guide.

Kind regards,
