Connect your software to HMRC for Income Tax
Description

Once you've enabled Income Tax, you then need to connect Sage Accounting to HMRC. This allows Sage authority to interact with HMRC on your behalf. 

Before you start, you'll need your:

  • Government Gateway user ID
  • Government Gateway password
  • National Insurance number

 NOTE: This connection will last for 18 months, after which you need to reconnect to HMRC.

Open Income Tax settings

  1. Go to Settings, then select Business settings.

  2. Under Financial settings, select Income Tax.

You now see the Income Tax summary page.


Sign up for Making Tax Digital with HMRC

If you haven’t signed up for MTD for Income Tax:

  1. Under Sign up for Making Tax Digital on HMRC, select Sign up on HMRC.

  2. Follow the HMRC steps to complete your MTD signup.

  3. Return to Sage once HMRC confirms your signup.

If you have already signed up, select I’m already signed up.


Connect Sage to HMRC

Once you’ve signed up for MTD:

  1. Under Connect Sage to HMRC, select Connect to HMRC.

  2. Select Continue to grant Sage authority to interact with HMRC on your behalf.

  3. Enter your Government Gateway user ID and password, then follow the HMRC prompts.

  4. Enter your National Insurance number, then select Continue.

  5. Check your business details and select Change if you need to update them.

  6. Select Confirm to finish the connection.

After you connect successfully, Sage redirects you to the Income Tax summary page.
