Legislation changes The Government approved changes to NHS Pension tiers in July 2025, that applies retrospectively from 1 April 2025. You can view these changes in the July 2025 NHS Pensions bands changes article. If you haven't already done so, check if the July 2025 NHS Pension tier changes affect your employees article. Amend or enter new NHS Pension legislation Your software allows you to update existing NHS Pension legislation, or enter new legislation that's effective from a new date. ▼ How do I check the NHS legislation already in my software? Follow the steps below to check the legislation currently set up in your software: - Select Company then Legislation.
- Go to the NHS Pensions tab.
- Use the drop-down beside Effective from to select the legislation to view.
- To edit the existing NHS Pension legislation effective from 01/04/2025 in your software, follow the edit existing legislation steps below
- If 01/04/2025 isn't already set up, skip ahead to the enter legislation for a new date section
Edit existing legislation - Go to Company, then Legislation.
- Go to the NHS Pensions tab.
- Click the Effective from drop-down option and select 01/04/2025.
- If there's no legislation for 01/04/2025, skip ahead to the enter legislation for a new date section.
- Update the relevant Band To values and check the rates are correct. Your software adds the Band From value automatically.
NOTE: Check that you've entered these correctly, as a mistake here can affect your employees' tier and/or contributions. - Select OK.
- On your employee list, select any of your employees on the NHS Pension scheme.
- Select Payroll, then NHS Pension Tiers.
- Select Save, this step refreshes the calculations based on the new legislation values you entered.
TIP: Your software only uses the new legislation you entered after you click Save in NHS Pension Tiers. You've entered the new legislation for process dates of 1 April 2025 onwards. When you use NHS Pensions Module options such as NHS Pension Tiers, your software uses the new legislation you entered. Enter legislation for a new date Follow the steps below to add the new NHS Pension legislation values to your software: - Select Payroll, then Change Process Date.
- Set the process date to 01/04/2025 then select OK.
- Select Company, then Legislation.
- Go to the NHS Pensions tab.
- Click Add Date and enter the date 01/04/2025, then click OK.
- Click the drop-down option to the right of Effective from, and select 01/04/2025. This is essential to ensure you edit the correct legislation values.
- Enter the relevant Band To values and check the rates are correct. Your software adds the Band From value automatically.
