If you have a week 53 and run a weekly, 2 weekly, or 4 weekly payrollIn Week 53 you must process the extra pay run at the end of the tax year. Do this in the same way you would a normal pay run.
Once you've completed the week 53 pay run:- From the Summary tab, select View Submission Details.
This is a summary of the information included in your submission to Smart. Payroll will set your Pay Reference Period date to 04 April 2024 to 05 April 2024 - Select Submit Online to submit details to Smart for the week 53 pay run.
If you have problems submitting your file:Having difficulty? Please contact Smart. Ask to check if your Pay Reference Period dates match Sage Payroll. You will then be able to submit your pension file from within payroll.
If you don't have a week 53You need to notify Smart there are no contributions to report for week 53. Log into your Smart portal and enter zero contributions into your week 53 payment schedule. Having difficulty? Please contact Smart.
Set up new groups in your Smart portalYou need to set up new groups for the start of the new tax year if you have a: - 2 weekly payroll
- 4 weekly payroll
2 weekly and 4 weekly payrolls use dates to align the tax periods to match payroll. NOTE: If your groups are already using these dates, you do not need to do anything further. Ignore the rest of this article. Pay frequency | Dates to use with your new groups | Two weekly | 6 April - 19 April | Four weekly | 6 April - 3 May |
Read the Smart Pension article Creating a new Smart Pension Group (opens in new tab). Once your groups are set up within Smart, transfer your employees from the old group into the new group. Having difficulty? Please contact Smart.
Edit your Smart pension group name in payrollYou can edit your group name in payroll to match your new Smart group. - Select the Pensions tab, and select Edit pension.
- Next to your existing group name select View/Edit.
- Change the name of the group.
- Select Next, and Save.
- Select Save.
Assign your employees to the new or edited pension groupOnce you have created or edited your group, assign it to each employee during the first pay run of the new tax year. - Process your pay run up to the Edit Pay stage.
- Select Manage Enrolment, then Change Pension Scheme.
- Use the Pension Plan drop-down to select the new or edited group.
- Select Save.
- Do this for any employees who are part of the pension scheme.
- Complete the pay run as usual.
