How to check your data is correct in Sage Accounting.

Check your trial balance

  1. From Reporting, click Trial Balance.
  2. On the Period list, click Custom.
  3. In the Period box, choose This Finacial Year or Last Finacial Year.
  4. This report should be run for the same period as the trial balance in Sage 50 Accounts.
  5. Click Calculate.

Make sure the values in Accounting match the values on the trial balance you produced in Sage 50 Accounts before you migrated the data.

We recommend that you also compare your balance sheet and profit and loss with reports produced from Sage 50 Accounts using the same date range.

Check the aged debtor and creditor reports

  1. On the Reporting menu, click More.
  2. Click Aged Debtors then in the To box, enter the date you ran the report up to in Sage 50 Accounts.
  3. Check the value in the O/S Amt matches the value in the Balance column on the report from Sage 50 Accounts.

Repeat these steps for the Aged Creditors report.

Check your chart of accounts

To check your chart of accounts, compare the Trial Balance report you ran in Sage 50 Accounts to the Trail balance in Accounting.

To check the ledger accounts in Accounting,

  1. From Reporting, select More.
  2. Select Chart of Accounts then Export then chose CSV or PDF.

Check the visibility of your nominal codes

In Accounting, you can choose to hide some ledger accounts when entering transactions to help reduce errors.

To set this up

  1. Click Settings, then click Chart of Accounts.
  2. Click the relevant nominal ledger account and amend the Visibility section as required.
  3. Click Save.

Check your VAT Return

Sage 50 Accounts

  1. Open VAT then click VAT Return.
  2. Check the dates are for your next VAT period then click Calculate VAT Return.
  3. Include any unreconciled transactions.

Accounting

  1. from Reporting, choose VAT Returns.
  2. Select Create VAT Return then enter the same date range and click Calculate.
  3. Check the values for each box are the same.

Review your bank accounts

  1. From Banking, open your main bank account.
  2. Compare the balance to the book balance in Sage 50 Accounts.
  3. Click the Reconciliations tab and compare the reconciled balance to the last reconciled balance in Sage 50 Accounts.
  4. Check any additional bank balances and create any new accounts if needed.
