What you need to know- You must have full user access permissions
- You can't edit a journal that has:
- Been included on a VAT return
- Included on a bank reconciliation or marked as cleared
- Been migrated from a previous accounting system
NOTE: If you can't edit the journal, you'll need to reverse the journal instead. If the journal is dated before your lockdown date, change the Year End Lockdown date in Accounting Dates & VAT settings first.
Edit a journalTo edit a journal entry, please complete the following steps: - From Adjustments, choose Journals, then open the relevant journal.
TIP: To help find the correct journal- enter some text in the search box. You can also add From and To dates. Select Search. - Select Edit.
- Make the necessary changes.
- Save your changes.
Change the order of journal linesSelect the dots to the left of each line to re-arrange the rows.
Delete a journal- From Adjustments, choose Journals.

- Select Delete next to the relevant journal entry.
Reverse a journal- From Adjustments, choose Journals.
TIP: To help find the correct journal-, enter some text in the search box. You can also add From and To dates. Select Search. - Open the relevant journal entry.
- Select Reverse. This creates a new journal with opposite debit and credit values.
- Change the Details or Description as required.
The date and the amounts on each journal line of the journal should stay the same as the original. However, you may want to change the reference or add a description to show that this is reversing a journal entered in error. - Save your changes.
