Set up your own CIS categoires

This guide explains how to create your own CIS categories. You might want to do this for more detailed reporting or to match to a previous accounting system.

About CIS categories

You can create your own category for CIS Labour or Materials.

You can utlise exisitng categories. This is if you haven't entered any transaction associated with that category.

You can only select a CIS Labour or Materials categories when entering a sales invoice or credit note. We hide these when entering Money In and Money Out transactions.

You can't use the category set up for sales in the Record and Transaction Settings. This is because these are also used for transactions and contacts that are not related to CIS.


Set up your own CIS category

  1. From More, select Business Settings, then Chart of Accounts.
  2. Select New Category and enter the details. Or select an existing category to edit.
  3. Choose the Type
  4. The category must have one of the following types:
    • For CIS Labour, use Sales or Other Income
    • For CIS Materials, use Overheads or Direct Expenses
  5. Choose Enable CIS on this category
  6. This makes this category available when entering transactions for CIS contacts.
  7. Select Save.
