Save time using function keys
Description

Using the function keys on your PC's keyboard when using your software can:

  • Speed up data entry
  • Lets you access options quicker
  • Saves you time not having to constantly switch between your mouse and keyboard

Function keys

Let's take a look at what each one does:

F1

Opens a support guide that covers the area of the software you're using.

F2Opens the calculator anywhere in the software, where you can enter calculations by using the keyboard number pad.
F3

When creating invoices - Opens the Edit Item Line window. This displays the information relating to that particular item on the invoice.

When creating a customer or supplier receipt - Pays the receipt in full.

F4

If pressed in a box that refers to a module, a list appears for that module.

If pressed in a date box, a date picker appears.

If pressed in a value box, a calculator picker appears.

F5

If pressed in a value box the currency calculator appears.

If pressed in a text box, the spell checker appears.

F6

Duplicate key. If pressed in a batch data entry windows it copies information from the field above.

 TIP: If you use shift and F6 in the batch data entry windows it copes information from the field above and increments it by one. 

F7

Use to insert a blank line when entering data. For example, in the batched data entry windows, or in the Edit Chart of Accounts window.

F8

Use to delete the whole line of information being entered.

F9

Activates the Calculate Net Amount option, which splits the total you enter in the Net box into the net and VAT amounts.

F11

By default, this opens the Windows Control Panel. You can change this to open other software. See below.

F12

By default, this opens Sage Report Designer. You can change this it to open other software. See below.

Change F11 and F12 keys

You can configure these two function keys to activate the software of your choice.

  1. Click Tools, then click Options.
  2. Click the Environment tab.
  3. Replace the path and program file with what you want to activate using F11 and F12.
  4. To configure F12 to minimise your Sage 50 Accounts software, select the Configure F12 as Hide Key check box.
  5. Click OK.

Alt + F4 shortcut keys 

Use these options to quickly close Sage 50 Accounts.
