If an employee needs to take time off work when they're ill, whether they need a fit note depends on their length of sickness absence. Fit notes and proof of sicknessA fit note, also known as a sick note, is an official written statement from a doctor giving their medical opinion on a person's fitness for work. It may also make recommendations for you to support your employee. Changes in July 2022From 1 July 2022, the following healthcare professionals are able to provide employees with a fit note; - Nurses
- Occupational therapists
- Pharmacists (working in hospitals and GP practices)
