Sometimes you can receive a notice to change an employee's student loan plan type part way through the tax year.

If an employee hasn't had a Student Loan set up previously, you can add the new student loan to their employee record. Use our guide to set up student loans.

Change the Student Loan Plan Type

You can amend the student loan plan type in the employee's record. The plan types that are available to select are based on the Plan start date. 

1. Double-click the relevant employee on your employee list.
2. Click the Employment tab.
3. Click the Student/Postgraduate Loans button.
4. Click the Loan Type drop-down box and select the required plan type.
5. Sometimes the plan type you need to select isn't available. To resolve this, change the Student Loan Start Date to the date HMRC asked you to change it. 
6. Click Save, then Close.

You've updated the plan type, and your software applies it to calculations from the next period you process.
