What's changing?From 8 April 2021, HMRC changed the names of some of the boxes on the UK VAT Return to reflect that the UK is no longer part of the EU and to recognise the Northern Ireland Protocol changes. Don't worry, this change doesn't affect your VAT Return submissions and you can submit your VAT Return as normal.
The new VAT Return labelsThe changes will affect boxes 2, 4, 8 and 9 as follows: Box | Current label | New label from April 2021 | 2 | VAT due in this period on acquisitions from other EC Member States | VAT due in the period on acquisitions of goods made in Northern Ireland from EU Member States | 4 | VAT reclaimed in the period on purchases and other inputs (including acquisitions from the EU) | VAT reclaimed in the period on purchases and other inputs (including acquisitions in Northern Ireland from EU member states) | 8 | Total value of all supplies of goods and related costs, excluding any VAT, to other EC Member States | Total value of dispatches of goods and related costs (excluding VAT) from Northern Ireland to EU Member States | 9 | Total value of all acquisitions of goods and related costs, excluding any VAT, from other EC Member States | Total value of acquisitions of goods and related costs (excluding VAT) made in Northern Ireland from EU Member States |
Will my Sage software be updated?Although these changes don't affect your VAT Return submissions, we've updated the below Sage software to reflect the changes. Sage Business Cloud Accounting | These changes have been implemented and the VAT Return shows the correct labels based on the submission date of the VAT Return. | Sage 50 Accounts | The changes have been implemented in v27.2 which is available to download. Read more > | Sage 200cloud Standard/ Education | These changes have been implemented. | Sage 200cloud Professional | For customers on 2020 R2, these changes have been implemented. | Sage MTD Module | These changes have been implemented. | Sage Intacct Sage X3 Sage ERP 1000 | These changes have been implemented. Sage X3 - The new descriptions will appear for new customers, but existing customers who have their own customised settings should amend their labels. |
