The Government announced on the 12 June that the CJRS will change from 1 July and over the coming months.

Changes in July

From 1 July, Phase 2 of the CJRS begins.

Who is eligible?

The scheme is no longer open for news claims, you can only claim for employees that have already been furloughed for three consecutive weeks between 1 March and 30 June 2020, in phase 1.  Therefore, the last date an employee could have started furlough for the first time was 10 June 2020.

However, if you have employees who have returned from statutory parental leave after 10 June, they can be furloughed. Find out more >
Flexible furlough

You can bring back to work employees that have previously been furloughed for any amount of time and any shift pattern, while still being able to claim CJRS grant for their normal hours not worked. CJRS will continue to fund the hours not worked up to 80% of wages to a cap of £2,500. This is referred to as flexible furlough

Changes to a claim period

In phase 2 the minimum claim period is 7 days unless the number of remaining days in the pay period within the calendar month is less than 7. For example, 29 to 31 July if claiming weekly, a claim period is limited to a single calendar month, with no overlapping months.

Claims for July won't be able to overlap into August, they need to be claimed separately.

The minimum claim period is 7 days unless the number of remaining days in the pay period within the calendar month is less than 7.

1 to 7 July 7 days
8 to 14 July 7 days
15 to 21 July 7 days
22 to 28 July 7 days
29 to 31 July 3 days

Example

If your final week in July covers from 29/07/2020 to 04/08/2020, you need to include the three days - 29 , 30 and 31 July in your July claim. Then in your August claim, you would have a new claim for the first seven days in August, and this includes the 1- 4 August.
