Online Payslips 'Invalid Properties' errors

When you attempt to upload online payslips, the following error message may appear:

  • Invalid Properties - 

Followed by text indicating what's causing the error.

It's usually caused by invalid characters or extra spaces in a particular field.  The following are examples of invalid characters.

NOTE: The fixes for these errors do not work for historical payslips. If you need to fix an error in a prior period, rollback the relevant employee before following the steps. For help with doing this, visit the how to use the rollback option guide.

Cause
Resolution

Invalid properties '/payslips/0/addressLine3: error: addressLine3 is not valid

This error is caused by an invalid character in the third line of the employee's address, although the error returned may specify any of lines 1 to 5 of the address. To resolve this issue, remove any invalid characters from the employee's address.

  1. On your employee list, double click the relevant employee.
  2. In the Personal tab, remove any invalid characters from the required address line then click Save.
  3. If there appears to be no invalid characters, take note of the relevant line and delete it.
  4. Enter "x" to this line, then click Save.
  5. Re-enter the correct address, click Save, then Close.

You can now upload payslips for this employee.


Invalid properties Data.paye

This is caused by invalid characters or extra spaces in the employee's RTI Payroll ID in the employee record:

To resolve this, if the employee hasn't been included in a full payment submission (FPS), you need to recreate the employee that doesn't include the invalid characters in the RTI Payroll ID.

  1. On the Employee List, select the required employee.
  2. Click Employee then click Delete Employee.
  3. Create the employee record. Add a new employee >

NOTE: If the employee has been included on a FPS before, you should contact technical support


Invalid properties Data.name

This is caused by invalid characters or extra spaces in the the name field of an employee record.

To resolve this:

  1. Highlight all employees.
  2. Click Employee.
  3. Click Employee Record.
  4. Check the Name field in each of your employee records for invalid characters or extra spaces, and remove them.
  5. Click Save.
  6. Click Close.

Invalid properties Data.payments description index 0

This is caused by invalid characters or extra spaces in the description of a payment pay element.

To resolve this:

  1. Click Company.
  2. Click Pay Elements.
  3. Click Payments tab.
  4. Check the description field in each of your payment pay elements for invalid characters or extra spaces, and remove them.
  5. Click OK.
  6. Click Close.

Invalid properties Data.deductions description index 0

This is caused by invalid characters or extra spaces in the description of a deduction pay element.

To resolve this:

  1. Click Company.
  2. Click Pay Elements.
  3. Click Deductions tab.
  4. Check the description field in each of your deduction pay elements for invalid characters or extra spaces, and remove them.
  5. Click OK.
  6. Click Close.

Invalid properties Data.address.postcode

This is caused by invalid characters or extra spaces, in the company, or an employee's post code.

To resolve this:

Check the company address

  1. Click Company.
  2. Click Settings.
  3. Check the Post Code field for invalid characters or extra spaces, and remove them.
  4. Click OK.

Check your employee addresses

  1. Click Employee.
  2. Click Employee Record.
  3. Check the Post Code field in each of your employee records for invalid characters or extra spaces, and remove them.
  4. Click Save.
  5. Click Close.

Invalid properties Rateindex=4

This is caused when an employee is being paid with a pay element that has 7 digits or more in the Rate.  For example, the Salary is being paid at 1 Hr/No. at a Rate of £1,000,000.00.

To resolve this:

In Enter Payments, increase the Hrs/No. and reduce the Rate.  For example, make the Salary pay element 2 hrs at a rate of £500,000.00


Invalid properties payslipComment

This is caused by invalid characters or extra spaces, in an employee's electronic documents payslip comments field on the Analysis Tab.

To resolve this:

  1. Click Employee.
  2. Click Employee Record.
  3. Click the Analysis tab.
  4. Check the Payslip Comment field in each of your employee records for invalid characters or extra spaces, and remove them.
  5. Click Save.
  6. Click Close.

If the employee with the error does not have anything in the payslip comment box, use global changes to clear the contents of payslip comment box to refresh the field.


Invalid properties data.HolidayRemainingTD

This is caused by an invalid value in an employee's holiday remaining TD. This could be either a negative figure or a figure that is too large, such as 4 digits or longer. To resolve this, you should check and correct the Holiday Remaining figure.

  1. Click Employee.
  2. Click Employee Record.
  3. Click the Absence tab.
  4. Click Holidays.
  5. Click Entitlement

Invalid properties: PayrollNumber is invalid

This is caused by an invalid characters in the employee's Works Number.

This is caused by a - (dash) in the works number. As a note - Letters and a / are considered valid for Works Number.

  1. Click Employee.
  2. Click Employee Record.
  3. Click the Employment tab.
  4. Remove the invalid character from the Works Number field.
     TIP: Numbers, letters and the / symbol are valid characters in this field. 
  5. Click Save then Close.

Invalid properties: '/email' error: email is not valid

This occurs when the email address in the employee's record contains an invalid character. Remove any spaces or special characters from the employee's email address then try the upload again.

  1. Open the relevant employee's record.
  2. Check the Email Address is correct in the Personal tab.
  3. Go to the Analysis tab.
  4. Check the Email Address is correct.
  5. Select Save, then Close.

Payment or deduction rate is not valid

When you upload payslips, you may see one of the following errors:

'Property: 'payslips/X/payments/x/rate' error: payment rate is not valid'

'Property: 'payslips/X/deductions/x/rate' error: deduction rate is not valid'

These occur when you set the rate of a payment or deduction to £1,000,000 or higher. Your software doesn't allow rates of 7 digits or above.

If you need to make a payment or deduction of £1,000,000 or above, use hours to multiply a number below 7 digits as required. View an example >

A payment due is £1,500,000. Enter the rate £750,000, with the number of hours set to 2. The total value of the payment is £1,500,000, and the error no longer occurs.
