How to clear locks on a backup
Description

If you try and restore a backup and get an error message saying that someone is still logged into the data in Sage 50 Payroll, you can follow these steps to resolve this.

Cause
Resolution

You can resolve this by renaming some files in the data. Let's do it now:

  1. Ensure the error message is visible on-screen.
  2. Browse to the data directory. You can check this in Support Information in Help then About.
  3. Copy "unpak.tmp".
  4. Paste "unpak.tmp" to the desktop.
  5. Okay the error message.
  6. Close the Payroll program.
  7. Browse to the Payrolls data location.
  8. Rename the "payroll.mdb" to "payroll.old".
  9. Rename "unpak.tmp" to "payroll.mdb"
  10. Copy "payroll.mdb"
  11. Paste "payroll.mdb" to the payroll data location folder.
  12. Open the DB Utilities program and clear the payroll locks.

NOTE: If you're creating a new company from a backup, you need to create a new blank company first. You can then restore the backup from within the company, then follow the steps above.
