Restart your computer First, wait a few moments before running the installation again. Allow enough time for any background installation processes to complete. If you're still getting the 1618 error, restart your computer. If you have a dedicated server, check with your local IT before restarting. Disable and re-enable the Windows installer service - Ensure you're logged into Windows as a user with full administrator privileges.
- Press the Windows key
, type Computer Management then press Enter. - Double-click Services and Applications then double-click Services.
- Right-click Windows Installer then click Properties.
- In the Startup type dropdown, choose Disable, then press OK.
- Restart your computer.
- Follow steps 2 - 5, selecting Manual in the Startup type dropdown.
- Retry the installation again.
Terminate any remaining installer processes If the issue persists, contact your local IT support, but you can check for any remaining installer processes: - Press Ctrl + Alt + Delete, select Task Manager then the Processes tab.
- End any of the following processes by highlighting them, then select End Process.
- msiexec.exe
- installshield
- install.exe
