Resolution

Restart your computer

First, wait a few moments before running the installation again. Allow enough time for any background installation processes to complete.

If you're still getting the 1618 error, restart your computer. If you have a dedicated server, check with your local IT before restarting.

Disable and re-enable the Windows installer service

  1. Ensure you're logged into Windows as a user with full administrator privileges.
  2. Press the Windows key , type Computer Management then press Enter.
  3. Double-click Services and Applications then double-click Services.
  4. Right-click Windows Installer then click Properties.
  5. In the Startup type dropdown, choose Disable, then press OK.
  6. Restart your computer.
  7. Follow steps 2 - 5, selecting Manual in the Startup type dropdown.
  8. Retry the installation again.

Terminate any remaining installer processes

If the issue persists, contact your local IT support, but you can check for any remaining installer processes:

  1. Press Ctrl + Alt + Delete, select Task Manager then the Processes tab.
  2. End any of the following processes by highlighting them, then select End Process.
    • msiexec.exe
    • installshield
    • install.exe
  3. If any of these files are listed in the Task Manager, check for more than one Windows Installer. End Process and leave one only.
  4. Retry the installation again.

If the issue persists, contact your local IT support. They can check which package is currently blocking the installation of your Sage software
