Statutory maternity pay (SMP) doesn't calculate for an employee's second child
Description

Sometimes, your software doesn't calculate SMP payments after you enter an employee's SMP details.

If the employee's year to date (YTD) values indicate they've already received 39 weeks of SMP, your software doesn't calculate any payments. This occurs if you recorded 39 weeks of SMP for a previous child this employee had.

NOTE: This also applies to Statutory Adoption Pay (SAP).

Cause
Resolution

If you entered SMP details and aren't certain whether your software has calculated any SMP entitlement, check the employee's record:

  1. Double-click the relevant employee, then go to the Absence tab.
  2. Select the S.M.P. button, then go to the Entitlement tab.
  3. Check the number of Weeks against the Previously Paid row. If this is 39, due to a prior period of SMP, your software doesn't calculate any new SMP payments.
  4. When you're finished, select OK then Close.

TIP: If your employees' SMP Previously Paid weeks are already at 0.00 but no SMP calculates, follow the SMP troubleshooting guide.

Clear the weeks paid

Clear the weeks paid value using the steps below to allow your software to calculate a new period of SMP. Clearing the weeks paid value doesn't affect your EPS or any other submission, as the payment values remain.

  1. Double-click the relevant employee.
  2. Go to the Employment tab, then select YTD Values.
  3. Go to the Statutory Payments tab.
  4. Under Maternity Pay, in Weeks SMP Paid, change the value 0.00.
  5. Select OK.
  6. Select Save then Close.
  7. To check the SMP, select the employee.
  8. Select Payroll then Enter Payments.
  9. Go to the Summary tab, and check the SMP amount.
