The Sage 50 HR services
Description

 

Sage 50 HR uses the following services, which are required for both the database and the software itself:

  • Sage 50 HR Service
  • SageMySQL

You can use the Services console to:

  • Start, stop, pause, resume, or disable a service on remote and local PCs.

    Note: You must have the appropriate permissions to start, stop, pause, restart, and disable services. It is best to log on to the PC as an administrator.
  • Manage services on local and remote PCs.
  • Set up recovery actions to take place if a service fails, for example, restarting the service automatically or restarting the PC.
  • View the status and description of each service.

To access the Services console

  1. Right-click My Computer > Manage.
  2. Services and Applications > Services.

Alternatively:

  • Windows XP and earlier - Start > Run > enter services.msc > OK.
  • Windows Vista and later - Start > search box > enter services.msc > Enter.

To restart services

Note: You must be logged in as an administrator to carry out changes to services.

  1. Right-click My Computer > Manage > Services and Applications > Services.

  2. Double-click SageMySQL Service > General tab > check and, if required, set the following:

    Startup type

    This should be set to Automatic.

    If it's not Automatic, choose Automatic > Apply.

    Service status

    This should be Started.

    If it's Stopped, click Start.
    If it's Paused, click Resume.
    If it's Started, click OK > right-click the service > Restart.

  3. On the server PC, repeat steps 1 and 2 for the Sage 50 HR Service.

    Tip: If it's a standalone installation, this is the same PC and does not need to be done again.
  4. Close the Computer Management window: File > Exit.

To set up recovery actions

Note: Before setting up recovery actions, please consult your systems administrator.

  1. Right-click My Computer > Manage > Services and Applications > Services.
  2. Double-click the required service > Recovery tab.
  3. First failure drop-down list > choose the required option, such as Restart the Service or Restart the Computer.

    Note: Setting the restart option means that any unsaved work may be lost if either of the Sage 50 HR services error and cause the PC to restart.

  4. Reset the fail count after X days > we recommend setting this to a low number.

    Tip: It is not advisable to set a restart action for all subsequent failures.

  5. Click OK.

To manually reinstall the Sage 50 HR Service on the server

If for any reason the Sage 50 HR Service disappears, you can manually reinstall it.

  1. Start > Run > enter cmd > OK.

    Windows Vista and later - Start > search box > enter cmd > press Enter.

    Note: On windows Vista, even if you are logged on as an administrator, you may need to run the CMD window as administrator. To do this: Start > Start Search box > enter Command > Programs list > right-click Command Prompt > choose Run as Administrator.

  2. Enter cd\program files\sage\hr server > press Enter.

    Tip: If your software is installed in a different folder, enter the relevant path. For example, if you're using a 64-bit operating system, enter cd\program files (x86)\sage\hr server

  3. Enter %windir%\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\installutil /PORTADDRESS=5150 /SERVERNAME=localhost /DATAPORTADDRESS=4197 Sage.SBD.HR.Remoting.Server.HRService.exe > press Enter.

    Tip: You can copy the text above and paste it into the Command Prompt window. To paste the text, you must use right-click > Paste rather than Ctrl + V.

  4. Enter Exit > press Enter.
